Hope Achievers Kenya empowers young women in Mathare with the skills, support, and community to build a brighter future — for themselves and their children.
Hope Achievers Kenya (HAK) is a registered community-based organisation founded in 2021 in Mathare, one of Africa's largest and most vibrant informal settlements.
What began as a mentorship program for young women and youth has grown to address depression, lack of vocational skills, high levels of poverty, and early pregnancy — expanding our programs to meet the community's real needs.
A holistic set of programs designed to support young women through every stage of their personal and professional journey.
Guidance, storytelling, and counselling to help participants navigate struggles, recover from violence, and build resilience. We provide referrals to rehabilitation centres and government mental health services.
Training in tailoring, computer literacy, and hairdressing — with plans to expand further. Participants can pursue skilled employment or start their own businesses, creating economic independence.
We train young women to establish kitchen gardens, reducing food expenses, improving diets, and creating additional income. A practical pathway to food security in Mathare.
Free services for children under three from vulnerable families, including those of teen mothers — providing a safe space, nutritious porridge, and fruit while mothers attend training and mentorship.
Raising awareness, providing mentorship, and engaging young women in productive activities to reduce early pregnancies. We educate on consequences and offer constructive alternatives.
Career advancement mentoring, leadership development, and collaborative learning circles. We help young women and youth chart life plans based on their unique abilities and opportunities.
Mathare is a neighbourhood with a population of over one million people, located in the heart of Nairobi. It covers 157 hectares and is a place where hundreds of thousands of parents raise their children, often without access to education or proper sanitation.
Walking through Mathare, you can feel it bustling with life. A large proportion of the population consists of children, young women, and youth. Despite challenging conditions, the sense of community is strong — and that community is what drives us.
Since 2021, we have grown from a small mentorship circle to a multi-program organisation touching hundreds of lives.
Every contribution — however large or small — directly sustains our programs and shapes the futures of young women and children in Mathare. Your support is what makes this work possible.
Patreon is a membership platform that lets you make a monthly contribution to organisations you care about. By subscribing to our page, you help us keep our programs running — paying for vocational training materials, childcare resources, mental health support, food programs, and more.
As a patron, you'll receive regular updates on what your support is achieving: stories from the women we work with, reports on our programs, and a direct window into life and change in Mathare.
Want to partner, volunteer, donate goods, or simply learn more? We'd love to hear from you.
